Last year, I wrote a piece on the concept of acceptance.

It was inspired by a conversation that I had with Dr. Fielder and Dr. Huser regarding the anxiety that so many of us have in the current climate of our world.

I wrote about how we often confuse acceptance with compliance, and that’s why we fight it.

We fight accepting our negative feelings like fear, anger, and loneliness because we fear that they will take over.

We fight accepting that people are going to do what they are going to do despite our input because we believe that is us giving license.

If you replace the word accept with acknowledge, the importance of practicing it becomes easier to understand.

When you’re fighting how you feel, you are compounding the issue, acknowledging it makes it that much easier to get through.

When you acknowledge that people are going to do what they are going to do, it makes it easier to pick your battles, and your boundaries.

Most importantly, when you accept the things in your life, good, bad, or in between, you can enact true and lasting change because you are coming from a more productive place.

What are the things in your life that you need to accept?
